Day by day

First Day we tour the Neuschwanstein Castle then visit Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Realise your childhood Disney dreams all at once as you tour the majestic Neuschwanstein Castle, inspiration for Disney’s famous Magic Kingdom. Meandering through King Ludwig II's fantasy residence with its idyllic setting will surely leave you impressed. Afterwards we will visit historic Fussen, nestled at the foot of the Bavarian Alps and hit the road for a scenic drive to the mountain resort town of Garmisch-Partenkirchen. (D)

Second Day its free time in Garmisch-Partenkirchen

Today, you are free to spend your time as you wish. Take a train to the top of the Zugspitze (the highest mountain in Germany), hitch a horse and carriage ride to the Partnach Gorge, enjoy one of the scenic walks in and around the gorgeous town, or size up the ski jumps at the Olympic Stadium. Venture out further and visit another of King Ludwig II's residences, Linderhof Palace, and the picturesque village of Oberammergau – famous for its Passion Play depicting the passion of Jesus Christ. Third Day travel to Innsbruck then onto Hall

We start with a scenic drive through the mountains in to Austria, making our way to Innsbruck, the capital of the Tyrol region. Amble through the Old Town and make sure to check out the famous Golden Roof, the Imperial Palace, and the Court Church with its 28 life-size bronze figures guarding the tomb of Emperor Maximilian I. Leaving Innsbruck, we continue to Hall, one of Austria’s most beautiful towns. Discover its hidden gems as you roam its perfectly-preserved alleyways and streets on your own watch. Tonight, we dig in to a Tyrolean feast complete with traditional food and music. (B, D)

Fourth Day we visit Kitzbuhel then Salzburg 

Get ready to depart for Kitzbuhel, a medieval town which has become a chic ski resort, fit for those who want to 'be seen'. Channel your inner Santa Claus with a horse-drawn sleigh ride around the Schwarz lake before exploring the legendary winter sports town at your leisure. In the afternoon, we continue through the mountains to Salzburg, internationally renowned for its Baroque architecture. (B)

Fifth Day explore Salzburg 

Today is yours to explore Salzburg’s historic centre, a UNESCO World Heritage site. See the imposing Hohensalzburg Castle, which sits high above the city, and visit Mozart’s birthplace, which holds a number of precious relics including his concert violin, his Clavichord and other family memorabilia. The famous unfinished painting by his brother-in-law Joseph Lange 'Mozart on the Piano' is also on display. (B)

Sixth day its onto Hallein, Konigssee then back to Salzburg 

Take it down a notch today (literally) as we venture below ground at the 7,000 year old Salzwelten salt mines in Hallein, one of the oldest in the world.* We continue via the historic town of Berchtesgaden to the Konigssee, where we take a cruise on the emerald-green lake lying deep and silent among the ancient peaks. So pretty, it gives your computer’s desktop background a run for its money. Back in Salzburg, kick your feet up and enjoy a well-deserved evening at your leisure. Bliss! (B)

Seventh day we travel to Hallstatt then onto Plankenstein Castle

Today, the journey is just as much the reward as we travel to Hallstatt, often referred to as the ‘Pearl of the Salzkammergut’ (Eastern Alps). A UNESCO World Heritage site, this small village is located on the shores of Hallstattersee and boasts a unique landscape of towering mountains and quaint wooden houses built either side of the lake. After taking some time to explore at your own pace (read: wandering around with wide eyes), we continue to Plankenstein Castle where we enjoy a very special night in this 800 year old medieval fortress. (B, D)

Eighth Day its off to Melk Abbey, Schonbrunn Palace then Vienna

Leaving our castle, we head to Melk and take a private tour of the town’s impressive abbey, complete with an archaic library that houses countless medieval manuscripts. Next up, Schonbrunn Palace on the outskirts of Vienna – a cultural treasure and magnificent example of Baroque architecture, with exquisite decor and perfectly manicured gardens. After a tour of this magnificent residence, watch experts patissiers prepare a Viennese apfelstrudel at the Court Bakery. Finally, we arrive in to Austria’s capital and largest city: Vienna. Jam packed with imperial history, Vienna is as exciting as it is historical, with a lively nightlife scene, amazing eats and countless museums and galleries to explore. Tonight, we feast. (B, D)
